Fancy Metal Box

Developed and built for a product pitch competition, the Fancy Metal Box is a watertight aluminum top case for motorcycles. These already exist on the market, like the Givi Outback 42L top case, but for more than $400. The materials and manufacturing are only ~$180.

The pitch was to sell these pre-built at $250, undercutting the competition, while offering an Ikea-style parts kit for $220 and its CNC files for $40. This would give consumers the option to try it themselves or modify the design, capitalizing on an existing custom culture.

Though it didn’t win the competition, it remains in development. None of the components could be considered “fancy”, because it is a base model, relying on the riding community to make it so.
